J.E. Sunde (Jonathan Edward Sunde) is a Minneapolis-based songwriter and composer originally from Wisconsin, with a background in classical vocal training and a decade of experience writing and performing with the indie-folk trio The Daredevil Christopher Wright.
Since then, he has released four solo albums, including Alice, Gloria and Jon (out on Vietnam Label), which have collectively garnered millions of streams on Spotify. His third album, 9 Songs About Love, was praised by NPR’s Bob Boilen as “a fight against melancholy that ends up in a surpassing place.”
Drawing inspiration from artists like Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, and Paul Simon, Sunde writes lyrically rich, philosophically tinged songs that move between introspective ballads and catchy folk-pop. For this performance, he’ll be joined by Shane Leonard on drums and Jeremy Boettcher on bass, adding dynamic texture to his thoughtfully crafted sound.
